Q.1. Write a short note on the text editor. 

Ans. Text editors are the precursors of word processors. While offering facilities for composing and editing text, they do not format documents. Text editors are now used mainly by programmers, website designers and computer system administrators. They are also useful when fast start-up times, small file sizes, editing speed and simplicity of operation is preferred over formatting. In Windows operating systems, Notepad is a basic text-editing program and it is most commonly used to view or edit text files.

Q.2. What steps are generally included while working with a word processor? 

Ans. Working with a word processor generally includes the following steps:

1. Creating a new document and writing in it. 

2. Opening an existing document. 

3. Editing the document, if required. 

4. Printing the document, if required. 

5. Saving the document on permanent storage device for later use.

6. Closing the document.

7. Exiting the word processor. 

Q.3. How can you create a new document in MS-Word?

Ans. To create a new blank document file, follow one of these methods:

Method 1: For opening a new blank document, click on ‘New’ option from the ‘File’ menu. A ‘New’ dialog box will appear. In this dialog box, in the ‘General’ tab, select ‘Blank document’ icon and click on ‘Ok’ button.

Method 2: Select the ‘New blank document icon from the ‘Standard toolbar. 

Method 3: Press the Ctrl+N shortcut key.

A window will appear on the screen. It has a very large area, known as workspace, for ‘typing text into it.

Q.4. Write all the methods of exiting the MS-Word.

Ans. After completing the work in your document file, you may exit from the MS-Word. For it, follow one of these methods:

Method 1: Select the ‘Exit (or ‘Save As’) option from the ‘File’ menu. 

Method 2: Click on the ‘Close’ button from the title bar of MS-Word. 

Method 3: Press the Alt + F4 shortcut key.

In case, if you had not saved the document file before exiting, MS-Word will prompt you to, save it in a dialog box.

Q.5. What is paragraph formatting in MS-Word? 

Ans. In MS-Word, a paragraph is always end on place where you press the ‘Enter’ key from the lines, hoard. Thus, a paragraph may consist even of one line only, and it may consist of thousands of lines. 

In paragraph formatting, you may control the appearance of text in the paragraph. In it, you can corform such operations as text alignment, tab stops, paragraph indentation, hetween paragraph and borders and shading.

Q.6. What Is paragraph indentation in MS-Word? 

Ans. Normally, when we start a new paragraph, we left a little space in the first line. This is indentation. It is not a margin. When you set margins, you set it for all the pas When you set margins, you set it for all the pages of the document. The indent is set for a particular paragraph. Indent specifies the distance of the text apo margins. The distance between text boundary and page margin is known as indent.

Q.7. Give the three types of indent. 

Ans. The three types of indent are:

1. Positive Indent: If positive indent is set, the text will be inward from the margins. 

2. Negative Indent: If negative indent is set, the text will be outward from the margins.

3. Hanging Indent: If positive indent is set for a paragraph and you want to include some points in a numbered or bulleted form, then you can set the hanging indent. It sets the text little inward from the first line of the text.

Q.8. What is Tab stop in MS-Word?

Ans. ‘Tab’ key is used to move the cursor 0.5 inch (by default) forward. We can set tab stops for the “Tab’ key. Now, pressing ‘Tab’ key takes the cursor (and the text in right) upto the next tab stop in the line. Thus, tab stop is used to indent a paragraph or line. You can use as many tab stops in a line, as you want. Tab stop helps to arrange the columnar data in columns and thus increase the readability of the document and helps in typing.

Q.9. What do you mean by line spacing in MS-Word?

Ans. Line spacing determines the gap between two lines of text in a paragraph. It is measured in lines or points. Various line spacing options are Single, 1.5 lines, double, at least, exactly and multiple. The default value for at least and exactly options is 12 pt. (points), and for multiple option is 3, if you wish you can change the value of these three options’ values.

Most commonly used line spacing options are single, 1.5 lines and double.
