Q.1. What do you mean by the term “Business Ethics”? Also give a brief overview on it.
Aiis. Meaning of Business : A
business (also known as enterprise or firm) is an organisation engaged in the trading of goods, services, or both to consumer. Businesses are predominant in capitalist economies, in which most of them are privately administered to earn profit and to increase the wealth of their owners. Businesses may also be not-for-profit or state-owned organisations. A business owned by multiple individuals may be referred to as a company, although that term also has a more precise meaning.

Meaning of Ethics: Ethics, also known as moral philosophy, is a branch of philosophy that addresses questions about morality, that is, concepts such as good and evil, right and wrong, virtue and vice, justice and crime etc.

Meaning of Business Ethics : Business ethics (also known as corporate ethicsis a form of applied ethics or professional ethics that examines ethical principles and moral or ethical problems that arise in a business environment. It applies to all aspects of business conduct and is relevant to the conduct of individuals and entire organisations.

Business ethics is an enquiry of ethics in the field of business. It concentrates on moral standards that the system of business, business organisations, and individuals within the business organisations and individuals who deal with business organisations have to evaluate and follow in their day to day dealings and decisions.

Business ethics can be studied at three levels: systemic, corporate and individual. Systemic issues deal with economic, political, legal and other related systems within which production and distribution activities are carried out. Questions related to the morality of capitalism, regulation of business etc. fall into this level. Corporate level issues deal with actions of corporate concerns or corporate citizens.

Individual level issues deal with every individual working in a business firm and it can include customers/consumers.

Definition of Business Ethics: “The Business ethics could be defined as a normative study of moral standards as they apply to business policies, institutions, and behaviour.”

Overview of Business Ethics: Business ethics reflects the philosophy of business, one of its aims is to determine the fundamental purposes of a company. If a company’s purpose is to maximise shareholder returns, then sacrificing profits to other concerns is a violation of its fiduciary responsibility. Corporate entities are legally considered as persons who are legally entitled to the rights and liabilities of the citizens as persons.
