Regional Method of Teaching

The regional strategy of teaching is used mainly in geography. It has been developed in the 20th century this strategy was designed. A.J. Herbertson in 1405 for teaching natural world regions. The birth of the natural regions had developed a regional method of teaching geography. A natural region indicates similar natural conditions, climate, vegetation, animals, and human similarities. Principles of Regional Method

The regional method is based on the following principles :

(i) It is a scientific method. The content is presented in cause-effect 

(ii) The content is organized and presented in a sequence form of Kieran order.

(iii) It follows some psychological principles.

(iv) It is based on the apperceptive-mass theory of learning.

(v) The geographical facts are taught in integrated ways.

Advantages of Regional Method

The following are the main advantages of the regional method of teaching:

(i) The natural regions can be taught effectively by this method.

(ii) The method is based on cause-effect relation.

(iii) It employs previous knowledge adequately in teaching.

(iv) It is a psychological as well as the scientific method of teaching

(v) It can be used effectively for comparison purposes.

(vi) It is much more useful for teaching geography in a higher class

Limitations of Regional Method

The following are some limitations of this method :

(i) The method can not be used at the lower level. It can be used at the secondary and higher secondary levels.
